An Foras Feasa's New Home Takes Shape

Print PDF

Just beneath the towering crane dominating the North Campus of NUI Maynooth An Foras Feasa's new home is beginning to take shape. Significant progress has been made in the short period since the official sod turning ceremony in May. Construction will cost a total of approximately €15 million. A significant proportion of this sum was provided by PRTLI IV.

Construction is due to be completed in early 2010. The building will provide research space for An Foras Feasa, the National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis (NIRSA) and the National Centre for Geocomputation (NCG). Included in the facilities will be lecture theaters, video conferencing suites and a state of the art digital imaging laboratory, one of the first such dedicated facilities in Ireland.

Crucially, the new building will also be able to accommodate over 40 research postgraduates, providing individual work spaces in a supportive collaborative research environment.

Please check back regularly for updates as the impressive undertaking develops.

Print PDF

Congratulations to Rebecca Murphy, Meg O’Connor, Niamh Boyle, Aisling Brangan, Sarah Kelliher, Lucy Moran, Danielle Higgins, Celine Joy and Elise Wickham on winning the National Transition Year Entrepreneurs of the Year with their Dig-i-Music project on the 14th May.

The girls, all students of St Wolstan's Community College Celbridge, advised and mentored by AFF Associate Director Dr John Keating, produced software that enables musicians to view their sheet music on a laptop and with the aid of a pedal allows musicians to turn the page in a hands free manner.

The Dig-i-Music team's endeavours have earned them a well deserved five day holiday in Florence and €500 spending money. Well done to all concerned!
