Course Content
This course is designed for graduates both in the Humanities and in the Computing Sciences, integrating the needs, practices and challenges of humanities research with new methodologies, theories and practices in Information Communications Technologies. This programme will deliver both the necessary skills to undertake professional Digital Humanities work and the knowledge of how this emerging discipline is affected by new theories, methodologies and practices.
Individual modules will introduce learners to the fundamentals of Digital Humanities (DH) and Humanities Computing (HC); to XML technologies and their application to DH problems; to the theory of data modelling and its related software engineering methodologies; to the theories, tools and practices of data visualisation; and to the design and implementation of digital archives and repositories. Later modules will prepare learners to create and manage metadata, to contextualise the creation of digital artefacts and text-encoding within the Humanities and Computing Sciences, and to explore a substantial DH or HC problem in depth, within a supportive environment.
